Western partners with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to promote a number of regional indoor and outdoor rebate opportunities. In addition, Western provides a variety of FREE and low-cost programs to help our customers save even more!
Residential Indoor and Outdoor Rebates
Through Western’s partnership with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), customers have access to the following indoor and outdoor rebates. All rebates should be obtained through the SoCalWaterSmart.com website. Western's rebate amounts are outlined below.

Indoor Rebates
Together, toilets and clothes washers account for approximately 45% of the water used inside your home. Replacement of your inefficient clothes washer or toilet may contribute to water savings and a reduced water bill.
- $350 for qualifying high-efficiency clothes washer
- $250 for qualifying premium high-efficiency toilet
Outdoor Rebates
Up to 70% of California’s entire residential water supply is applied to home landscapes, yet many landscapes are overwatered due to sprinkler controllers that are not programmed properly. The following outdoor products and devices are designed to reduce waste, usage, and homeowner costs.
- Up to $300 for a qualifying weather-based irrigation controller
- $5 for each rotating sprinkler nozzle
- $35 per rain barrel & $250 per cistern
Turf Replacement Program
The Turf Replacement Program takes a multi-pronged approach to maximize water use and efficiency. Removing turf grass is one of the most water-conscious adjustments a homeowner can make to reduce their water usage and associated costs.
- MWD is currently offering a rebate of $2 per square foot.
- Western is currently offering $3 per square foot, for the first 1000 square feet of turf removed.
- In total, Western customers will receive $5 per square foot, for the first 1000 square feet of turf removed, and $2 per square foot after that. Rebates are secured by clicking the SoCalWaterSmart link.
* The SoCalWaterSmart webpage will list the rebate at $2 per square foot. Once you enter your Western customer information, your rebate will automatically adjust to the correct rebate amounts listed above.

Commercial Indoor and Outdoor Rebates
Through Western’s partnership with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), commercial and multi-family residential businesses have access to the following rebates. In addition to these indoor and outdoor rebates, a variety of rebates are available for food equipment, HVAC equipment, and medical and dental equipment.

Indoor Rebates
The replacement of inefficient toilets and valves may contribute to water savings and a reduced water bill.
- Premium high-efficiency toilets (starting at $40)
- Ultra-low and zero water urinals (starting at $250)
- Plumbing flow control valves ($5 per valve and a minimum of 10 required)
Outdoor Rebates
The following outdoor products and devices are designed to reduce waste, usage and business costs.
- Weather-based irrigation controllers ($35/Station – Controller can have a maximum of 11 inactive stations per controller)
- Rotating nozzles for pop-up spray heads ($2 per nozzle with a minimum of 30)
- Large rotary nozzles ($13 per set with an 8 set min required)
- In-stem flow regulators ($1 per regulator with a 25 device min)
- Soil moisture sensor systems ($35 per irrigation controller station – eligible SMSS can have a maximum of 11 inactive stations per controller)
