Vacation


  • First four years of employment, vacation is accrued at the rate of 3.08 hours per pay period, equivalent to 10 days per year
  • Fifth through ninth years, employees accrue 4.62 hours per pay period or 15 days per year
  • Tenth (10th) and subsequent years, employees accrue 6.16 hours per pay period or 20 days per year
Vacation can be used after the completion of the probationary period. 

The maximum vacation accrual is 320 hours. In addition, employees may cash out up to a maximum of 80 hours of accrued vacation time, once per calendar year, provided employee has no less than 80 hours remaining following the cash out.

Holidays

 
After two full work weeks of employment, employees will receive pay at the employee’s current straight time hourly rate, for ten holidays. 

Holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

After completion of the probationary period, employees receive three additional workdays per fiscal year as “floating holidays”. These holidays are taken at employee’s discretion, in full day increments, and are subject to approval by the employee’s supervisor/manager. Floating holidays not taken during the fiscal year are converted to vacation time for each unused floating holiday.

Sick Leave


Employees accrue 96 hours of sick leave per year. After completing a full calendar year of employment and using no more than 18 hours of sick leave during said calendar year, employee may be compensated for up to 40 hours of accrued sick leave at the employee’s current rate of pay. Sick leave can be used after completion of the probationary period and shall be cumulative to a maximum of 1,600 hours. Sick leave is paid on a specific scale upon termination of employment.

Administrative Leave


After completion of the probationary period, employees covered by the COU receive 32 or 40 hours of paid administrative leave. The hours of administrative leave are determined by the employee’s exempt/non-exempt status and may be taken in 15 minute increments. Administrative leave hours not taken during the fiscal year are converted hour-for-hour to vacation time hours.

Bereavement Leave

Western provides up to three days' paid bereavement leave in the event of a death in your immediate family. Immediate family is defined as registered domestic partner, spouse, child, parent, sister, brother, grandparent or grandchild of you or your spouse. An additional two days may be paid in the event you must travel outside the Southern California area to arrange and/or attend the funeral.

Jury Duty

If you are called for and report to jury duty, you will receive your full regular pay for time away from work. However, you must return to work if there are two or more hours of your workday remaining, exclusive of travel time.
